The art of Diane and Ray Pizzo
Ray and Diane are Glass artists from their home and studio on the island
of Maui. This is an inspirational place for many artists who believe, "If
people are made aware of such beautiful creatures and places, then maybe
they will take better care of them." The Pizzo's are trying
to increase this awareness. Diane Began her training as a child,
attending art classes and also under the supervision of an artist filled
family. After receiving her masters she was fortunate to study
for a time under the Trailblazer of Glass in America, Maurice Heaton, a
fellow of the American Craft Council. In 1984 Diane met Ray and it was
a team made in glass heaven. Diane taught Ray the glass basics
and then there was no stopping him. His love for experimentation,
sometimes with or without rules, helped develop the Pizzo's own approach
to fusion glass. They believe that combining that need to experiment
with the knowledge of techniques can sometimes evolve into something completely
new which pushes the boundaries of their craft. Ray and Diane show
that enjoying their work is really the point of it all. Their working together continues
to foster ideas which have many options.
