Linens, Bags & Fiber Arts

In old Hawaiʻi, home and work items were made of available natural materials such as gourds and lauhala, leaves of the hala tree. Artisans decorated daily-use items with their own as well as traditional styles of patterns and imagery, paying special attention to pieces destined as gifts for royalty. Later, when Westerners brought cloth to the islands, the classic Hawaiian quilt was born.
