Much of Ellen Friel’s inspiration comes from a love of Maui seascapes and landscapes – and from the aloha spirit of the people who live there. She is frequently seen plein air painting along the byways, shores, and scenic vistas of the island, capturing beautiful views in both oil and watercolor.
“I enjoy my creative life as it is a spiritual and inspiring journey. I hope that people experience a sense of place in my work, and enjoy what I refer to as a “fourth dimension” – the feeling I try to impart in each piece.”
Ellen received her BFA in Painting from Notre Dame College in 1982, and has studied with many noted artists throughout her career. She has received awards for her original art and clay work in both regional and national shows, and is a signature member of two of the most distinguished juried art organizations in the U.S.
