“My ‘why’ in life is to create artwork from my adventures, to observe the wonder when I get out there, and to bring those exhilarating feelings back from my explorations and into my paintings. It’s my calling, and it brings me incredible joy. I challenge myself to capture the awe in nature and then to celebrate that beauty with my friends, art enthusiasts, and loved ones.
“The poet Mary Oliver gave some great advice on instructions for living a life: Pay attention. Be astonished. Tell about it. This is what I believe I am called to do as an artist: to look for the magic in a sunset, a wave crashing, a surfer ready to find the perfect wave; to fully experience and be wowed; and then to tell those stories through my artwork. I love to focus on the simplicity of my surroundings to artistically express the essence of the moment.
“Living on the island of Maui, I am blessed to be surrounded by beautiful scenery and to have the opportunity to share my artistic expressions with visitors and the local community. I strive to translate the amazing vibes of the Hawaiian ocean, beaches and rivers into my oil paintings and pastels. Anything tropical or water-related, and I’m all for painting it!
“Since the time I could pick up a crayon as a little girl, I have been fascinated with color and creating beautiful images. As an adult, I am still coloring, so to speak. As a teen, I attended Art Center courses in Pasadena, and went on to UCLA to earn my BA degree in Fine Art. I’m currently a member of the Lahaina Arts Society, the Pastel Society of America, and the Plain Air Painters of Maui.
“I was honored to have my pastel painting, “Banyan Tree Bliss,” win the 2023 Lahaina Poster Contest. I am also passionate about therapeutic artistic expression. From 2014 to 2018, I was active in supporting the non-profit Art & Creativity for Healing as a board member and volunteer. I’m very proud to call Lahaina home, where I live with my husband, Bret, and our dogs, Paisley and Otis.
