The box is mahogany and the flip top Hawaiian koa. The box base is raised up about .5 inch so it appears to float. The top is lifted up by its “live” edge that hangs over the front of the box. This unusual Maui koa was harvested from the slopes of Haleakala. It is special because most Hawaiian koa today comes from the Big Island.
Inside is 13.5 x 9.5 x 4.2 inches at the back and slopes to 4.8 inches at the front. Lined with black fabric that can be changed by simply removing the liner board. The design allows easy access to everyday items in the top tray and storage in the box. It is a beautiful addition to a bedroom dresser or office desk.
2012 Maui Trade Dollar featuring whales is mounted in the center of the top tray and can be flipped up for viewing both the front and back. It is in a coin safe enclosure.
