Fiber Arts

In old Hawaii, home and work items were made of available natural materials such as gourds and lauhala.  Artisans decorated these necessary items, creating their own and traditional styles of patterns and imagery–special attention was given to pieces destined as gifts to royalty.  Later, when westerners brought cloth to the islands, the classic Hawaiian quilt was born.
