Claire Blahnik

Makawao, July - Claire Blahnik

MAUI HANDS GALLERY AT 1169 MAKAWAO AVE., MAKAWAO, PRESENTS CLAIRE BLAHNIK AND HER BEAUTIFUL OIL PAINTINGS. COME MEET CLAIRE ON JULY 12TH, 19TH AND 26TH FROM 11AM TO 3PM.

Every day, I am inspired by the beautiful island of Maui. I grew up on this island, only leaving for a few years for college to study watercolor. I excelled at it. When I moved back, I decided to dive into oil painting. I feel that oils capture the beauty of Maui more than other mediums. This has opened a new world for me. I am constantly learning and evolving with every painting. When I escape into my artwork, I enter another world where I can dwell for hours.

I am an avid beach goer, sun lover, and take pleasure in all Maui has to offer. My paintings capture the essence of the beautiful places I have surfed, swam, and played. In my work, I represent my favorite aspects of the island lifestyle and culture.

Tuli & Sione Tuiaki

Makawao, July - Tuli & Sione Tuiaki

MAUI HANDS GALLERY AT 1169 MAKAWAO AVE., MAKAWAO, PRESENTS TULI & SIONE TUIAKI AND THEIR WOOD CARVINGS. THEY WILL BE CARVING ON SIGHT EVERY WEDNESDAY IN JULY FROM 11AM TO 4PM.

Joel began painting with no formal art training other than what he was able to pick up in school, from associating with other artists and from the joys of experimentation and discovery. When he painted the sea and all the delightful things therein, it brought him peace; when he dabbled in Egyptian art, it developed his technique for detailed art and led to his success as an artist today.

He has since gained a greater appreciation for the Hawaiian culture, and is particularly intrigued by ancient designs on tapa cloth and by Hawaiian petroglyphs. Joel now combines these two cultural icons, creating acrylic paintings of ancient Hawaiian imagery on tapa cloth. He also found a new skill in sculpting precious koa wood, using the same imagery as in his paintings. Joel loves what he does and so do the many people who have purchased his work.
