May 2014 Art Shows

Sandra Greenberg

Lahaina, May - Sandra Greenberg

MAUI HANDS GALLERY AT 612 FRONT STREET, LAHAINA PRESENTS PHOTOGRAPHER, SANDRA GREENBERG, EVERY FRIDAY IN MAY FROM 4:30PM TO 7:30PM. A COLLECTION OF HER PHOTOGRAPHS FROM AROUND THE HAWAIIAN ISLANDS ON DISPLAY.

"I was fortunate to grow up in New York City and have access to some amazing schools. I attended the high school of Art and Design in Manhattan and then went on to attend Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art where I majored in painting and photography. After Cooper Union I went to Pratt Institute in Brooklyn where I received my PD in Creative Development and Art Therapy. I later pursued educational degrees in Special Education and Supervision where I could use my license in Art Therapy and teaching, and actually support myself. My father was stationed in Schoffield barracks during World War II and filled my head with stories of Hawaii. My father had a hula girl tattooed on his arm, which was my version of what a princess would be like. I think part of me always knew that someday I'd be here. I am so grateful to be doing what I love, around people I love, in the place that I love. What can make you feel more alive than whales, turtles, rainbows and sunsets? That is what I want my pictures to show."

Richard DiGiacomo

Paia, May - Richard DiGiacomo

MAUI HANDS GALLERY AT 84 HANA HWY, PAIA PRESENTS FINE ARTIST RICHARD DIGIACOMO. COME WATCH THIS ARTIST WORK HIS MAGIC ON ALUMINUM PANELS EVERY SATURDAY IN MAY FROM 2:30PM TO 5:30PM.

Richard DiGiacomo, of Russian and Italian descent, is an accomplished artist who is known for his innovative approach to coloration. As a master of his craft, Richard has been nationally rated in the top 5% in his field for his coloration techniques. For more than 35 years, he has worked with celebrities, noted interior designers and leading institutions. His work has earned numerous awards of excellence, has been displayed regularly on television and has been featured on radio. Transplanted to Maui, Hawaii in 2010, Richard was ascended to a new level of artistic ability with his newly-created metal fused art. Created by the etching of aluminum panels and color, and fused with various techniques, his technique calls for many coats of clear seals, applied to create depth and movement.

Richard says, "I have an exhilarating passion to fuse color and creativity onto metal panels. That comes from my compassion to impact lives with new vision, motivation and inspiration. In decades of working with men and women, who have faced difficulty in life, find spiritual strength, Ive learned to impart beauty, amazement and joy to the recipient, creating a tranquil and peaceful atmosphere. That can change lives. My sole accomplishment and reward for my work, he explains, is to see the smiling faces reflecting back from my work and having the privilege to know that Ive added joy and inspiration to a human life."
