The art of Daniel Moe

Daniel Moe lives and works on the flanks of Kilauea, the active volcano on the Big Island of Hawaii. His glass work reflects the environment of lava of Hawaii, and the ocean that surrounds the islands.

Daniel was born in Minnesota in 1967, and studied Fine Art Sculpture and Glass Blowing at the University of Wisconsin. Following a childhood dream, he moved to a tropical island and became an artist. Working in his Hawaii art glass studio, his intentions with his glass sculpture is to convey his experiences of the Big Island of Hawaii into his work. Daniel's glass work is a vivid reminder of experiences you may have encountered on your adventures through the volcanic landscapes of Hawaii, with the waves of the Paciffic Ocean surrounding and crashing upon the rocky shores of any of the Hawaiian Islands.

After graduating from the University of Wisconsin, he moved to Seattle Washington and gained a position on staff at Pilchuck Glass School established by Dale Chihuly. Learning from Italian, Swedish, Czech, and American Glass maestros, Daniel developed a style and approach unique to his own life and reflective of the geography of Hawaii, where he owns and runs his glass studio and school.

It's not just about the techniques and the material, it's a state of mind, a perseverance that allows one to not be limited to what seems possible. Anything is possible. Most of all, I enjoy working with this material, with this aina(this island), with this ocean and with my family and my friends."
