The art of Diane LaFontaine

Diane has been exhibiting her art for the past 25 years and has had ten solo shows and several group shows. She began her art training at the Art Institute of Chicago, studying anatomy and composition and continued her studies with four years at the Art Students League of New York City, focusing on abstract painting and printmaking. She furthered her mixed media exploration studying sculpture, ceramics and conceptual art at the Emily Carr School of Fine Art. In 2002 Diane moved to Maui where she has developed a significant body of richly-layered oil pastels as well as non-objective painting and mixed-media works on paper. Diane's new “Iconic Four Corners” series is inspired by her travels through the American Southwest, the Yucatan Peninsula, old European symbolism and non-Western mosaic traditions. Geometric motifs are inspired by ancient symbols, and by combining them with various colors and timeless materials such as wood, copper, brass, clay and plaster, Diane strives to achieve a sense of universal iconography. This series was accepted into Art Maui in 2009, a prestigious juried art show.
