The art of Diane Dorenzo
Diana
Dorenzo began drawing and painting as a child on her family's farm in rural
Pennsylvania. Encouraged by a teacher and propelled by her passion for
self-expression, she attended Philadelphia College of Art and later, the
prestigious Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, where she studied drawing,
painting, printmaking, sculpting and photography. After college, Dorenzo
was drawn to the seacoast where she painted on location from Nova Scotia
to Key West, Florida. Eventually, she migrated west to capture the redwoods
and vineyards along the Russian River, the rocky shorelines of Sonoma and
Mendocino counties, the sinuous streets of San Francisco... and a large
and appreciative audience for her work. A dozen years later, driven by a dream and her affinity for blue water
and pristine light, she followed the sun to Hawaii, where she established
her studio in upcountry Maui.
Diana's work is intense and exuberant. Her colorful palette is a fortissimo of bold strokes, rich blends, nuance and mood. Working on location has made her a master of the moment - the erupting sun over Haleakala; the kiss of koi rippling through water lilies or dust motes dancing along Piiholo road are expressed with spontaneity and great skill.
