The art of Carla Crow
Carla
Crow has earned widespread recognition for her unique personal vision expressed
through acrylic paintings on bark paper. The multicultural images she paints
express the knowledge of indigenous cultures of oceania and the globe.
She surrounds precisely rendered images with patterned borders that echo
embellishments found on old kapa, ipu, and tattoos. The handmade Mexican
bark paper she uses simulates Hawaii's kapa cloth. Carla was born in Chicago,
attended Northern Michigan University and moved to Hawaii in 1985 living
on Hana's isolated coast for fifteen years before moving to Haiku.
