The art of Erica Collins

Growing up in Mill Valley and in Point Reyes, CA, she spent a great deal of time outdoors. "My parents gave me a love of nature, and I started drawing at a young age". Later, after a move to the Mendocino Coast, Erica began studying art at the Mendocino Art Center. Continuing art courses in the Puget Sound area, led to working professionally; illustrating books and educational games for children, designing textiles and showing in galleries. In 2002 she moved to Maui, with her husband and daughter. "It has been incredible to be back in the tropics. I have allowed the islands to inspire and guide me with my art. With the amazing richness of animal and plant life, diversity of cultures, the light, and flowing lines of nature....it's exciting as an artist to live here. I've been drawn into printmaking. It's an enjoyable process, connecting me to other woodcarvers in the islands, as well as to the many generations of woodworkers and artisans in my family. I like that feeling, and the ability to bring ideas out with the strength that woodcut prints have." Erica has shown in galleries in Mendocino, California, Port Townsend, Washington,
Sun Valley, Idaho, and Maui and Hawaii. Her illustrations have been published by: Ampersand Press, Klutz Inc., Margaret McElderry Press, The Wright Group, Outside the Box, Globe Pequoit Press, Pacific Whale Foundation and Pacifica Island Art.
