The art of Neda Tuma Canton

Neda Tuma Canton was born in 1969 in the Prekmurje pottery region of Slovenia and studied art at the University of Ljubljana. She was highly influenced by the modern art movement of the 60s, 70s and 80s, which led to the independence of Slovenia from Yugoslavia in 1991. Neda was an active member of Slovene avant-garde. Growing up in her grandfather’s house, surrounded by an extensive collection of modern art, she evolved as an artist studying folk art, architecture and pottery. Each of these influences can be found in her work today.

Neda moved to Maui after she met her husband and started a family in 1994. Ever since, she has been greatly influenced by Hawaiian art and tranquil surroundings and often incorporates natural materials, such as Ho’okipa clay, into her work. She is proud to be a part of this beautiful island of Maui and expresses her gratitude in her work.

Each of Neda’s pieces is unique. If you love her style, please contact us for photos of her current work.
